Last Friday, it was reported that parents at Fillmore Elementary School in Lompoc are upset about recent changes in class sizes. The Lompoc Unified School District (LUSD) is consolidating kindergarten classes on that campus. With these changes on hand, how will you know if you are to enroll your preschooler in the best possible school? Here are the Top 5 Tips in choosing the right preschool for your kids:

1. Understand your Child

Check whether the approach of the school will match the needs of your child. Determine the strong points and weakness of your preschooler. They may be too young to choose but the choice should not be based on what you like or want, it should be because it is what they need.

2. Budgetwise

Create a list of preschools that fits into your budget. Have a list of affordable ones and move on to the other points to consider. There is no point in having a prospect school if you will eventually give it up because it won't fit in your budget.

3. Location

Location is an important consideration in choosing a preschool for your child. It is important that the travel time from your home to school is not too long. Driving for hours to bring your child to school is not only going to stress you but your little one as well.

4. Know the Staff

This is definitely one of the highest importance. Keeping an eye on how teachers and staffs interact with their students is a must. Look out for real conversation that takes place between the staff and the children. This is one way to know the sincerity of their interest in the kids.

5. Safety is a Priority

Learning the ins and outs of the school ground is a must. It is ok to ask the preschool director about the student-teacher ratio along with the school emergency plans. Having a glimpse of the playground as you tour the school will help too.
