This two-day intensive painting with acrylics workshop for beginner to intermediate painters. NASA’s InSight mission was the first interplanetary launch from the West Coast, launching May 5 from nearby Vandenberg Air Force Base.

The Mars InSight Roadshow is bringing family-friendly science activities to communities throughout California, making comparisons between earthquakes and the marsquakes that InSight will try to detect.

Stop by the Museum’s Space Lab for the following activities:
(1) “Make Your Own Marsquake” demo, in which members of the public jump and see seismometer readings on a screen; (2) Chat with NASA scientists and engineers; (3) Take space selfies; (4) View models of the InSight spacecraft; and (5) Explore Mars globe “cutaways” showing the interior of Mars.

FREE with paid Museum admission.

The Amgen Tour of California will return to the Santa Barbara South Coast! This marks the ninth time — and the sixth year in a row — the Santa Barbara region has hosted the seven-stage, 600-mile tour, which begins May 13 in Long Beach and concludes May 19 in Sacramento. The Santa Barbara County finish will take place along the iconic Gibraltar Road.
This will be the 15th year California’s State Capital has hosted a stage start, finish, or time trial. With a flat course planned for the riders, expect a fast sprint finish like previous years. Recent past winners include Mark Cavendish (2011, 2014-2016) and Marcel Kittel (2017).
